Professional development is fostered through discussion, study and the sharing of experiences. In this spirit, on Saturday 27 June, Orthofan was delighted to host the workshop ‘Orthodontic Appliances: Changing Parameters within a Holistic, Unified and Systemic Approach’ in its training room – an important day of in-depth discussion dedicated to dentists, dental technicians and other professionals in the sector.
The event, moderated by Fabio Fantozzi, featured Nicola Lambini – a leading figure in Italian orthodontics – as the keynote speaker, alongside Franco Francolini, offering participants an opportunity to update their technical knowledge and reflect on an increasingly integrated approach to orthodontic treatment.
A new perspective on orthodontic appliances
The workshop addressed a highly topical issue: the role of orthodontic appliances within a holistic approach to patient care.
Advances in orthodontics have led to treatment being viewed not merely as the correction of a malocclusion, but as part of a functional balance involving breathing, posture, swallowing, craniofacial development and the adaptation of the entire body.
Throughout the day, a number of clinical and technical aspects were explored in depth, including:
- the relationship between occlusion and general well-being;
- the concepts of homeostasis and functionality;
- the interpretation of posture from a systemic perspective;
- functional appliances and their development;
- the devices designed and developed by Nicola Lambini;
- the analysis of clinical cases and practical applications.
This journey has fostered dialogue between the laboratory and clinical practice, highlighting how the design of orthodontic appliances today requires an ever-broader understanding of the patient’s biological and functional dynamics.
Continuing professional development as a value for the laboratory
For Orthofan, training represents a tangible investment in quality.
Opening the laboratory to high-profile speakers means creating opportunities for professional development for practitioners from different backgrounds, thereby fostering the exchange of expertise and the promotion of an innovation-driven culture in orthodontics.
We believe, in fact, that a dental laboratory should not be limited to the production of bespoke medical devices, but can also become a place for networking, professional development and scientific discussion.
A moment of sharing that goes beyond training
Alongside the technical presentations, the day also featured opportunities for socialising, which encouraged dialogue amongst the participants and strengthened the spirit of collaboration that has always characterised events organised by Orthofan.
At the end of the workshop, attendees were also presented with the book ‘Orthodontics – 50 Years…’, written by Nicola Lambini, a work that serves as a valuable resource for those working in the sector.
Orthofan: a laboratory that promotes culture and innovation
Organising training events means contributing to the growth of the entire professional community.
Orthofan will continue to promote initiatives focused on technical and scientific development, in the belief that dialogue between clinicians, dental technicians and researchers is one of the key elements in developing orthodontic appliances that are increasingly effective, personalised and focused on the patient’s wellbeing.
We would like to thank all the participants, speakers and those who contributed to the success of this intensive day of training, in the certainty that it is just one of the many opportunities for discussion that our workshop will continue to offer.
